Your Guide to Car Brake Rotors
When do brake rotors need to be replaced?
The precise life span of brake rotors can vary from car to car and driver to driver. Most brake rotors will have an upper limit of 70,000 miles in terms of longevity, but some can even last up to 100,000 miles. However, they can also require a replacement sooner.
Regardless of mileage, signs that indicate you may need new brake rotors are as follows:
- Brake pedal pulses as you press it
- Steering wheel vibrates when you press the brake pedal
- Banging and/or squealing sound during braking
- Car takes longer to come to a complete stop
- Noticeable grooves, scratches, or other signs of damage on the rotor(s)
What are the different types of brake rotors?
We offer three main types of brake rotors for sale, each with their own level of performance:
- Blank disc: The most cost-effective brake rotors. Blank rotors do the job without issue and are the most affordable.
- Drilled or slotted disc: A step up for performance. Slotted or drilled brake rotors disperse heat more effectively, resisting fade and warping and making them better suited to spirited driving.
- Drilled and slotted disc: The ultimate performance rotors. Drilled and slotted rotors are the ideal option for those who want the best possible braking performance from their ride; it is recommended to pair them with stronger pads for optimal braking benefits.
Additionally, some brake rotors have an anti-rust coating that increases longevity but costs a bit more. If applicable, we recommend spending the extra money on rotors with this coating to get the most out of your purchase.
Can I upgrade my brake rotors without upgrading anything else?
You technically can upgrade just the brake rotors to a higher-performance design (like the slotted types mentioned above), but we recommend complementing them with upgraded pads. Since most of the work required for a brake pad replacement will be performed during a brake rotor upgrade, it would be in your best interest to throw on upgraded high-quality brake pads while you do it.
What's the difference between front and rear brake rotors?
Size, mainly. Front brake rotors are almost always bigger, as they need to manage the engine's weight as you slow down. Front rotors may cost a bit more as a result, but we recommend buying our full brake rotor kits to ensure strong braking performance across all four wheels.
Do you have brake rotors for my car?
Unless you drive something exotic like a Ferrari SF90 Stradale, we almost certainly have replacement brake rotors for your car. From the Corvette to the Corolla, our inventory covers nearly all vehicles you regularly see on the road. Plus, our performance brake pads and rotor kits include everything needed to upgrade your brakes.
